Ran Paddy's Shillelagh Shuffle...in the DOWNPOUR!
So Michele comes out from NY to run a quick 5K and grab lunch with Katy, Ro and I... we woke up to some sprinkles and chilly weather.... I moaned and groaned, but thought to myself "I have to at least go to the starting line since Michele drove 3 hours to run with me...." so I got out the rain slicker and warmer run gear (not that I have any) and made for the race, cursing Ro for sending me the link to run in my old neighborhood and, in turn, cursing myself for passing it along to Michele, but I got to see her so that was a huge bonus. Well let me tell you - we were not the only fools running today - there were about 1100 people. Everyone thought I was being funny as I randomly asked if the race was cancelled since they were walking away from the registration tables....really just wishful thinking on my part...rain or shine, really does mean rain or shine.
With sneaks squeaking and toes almost numb from the wind and cold we walked to the starting line.....WHOOOOOSH, Katy is off like a shot when the bagpiper sends us on the way... all I have to say is I made it... time is not all that important, right? yeah, right. I mean, after all I only run/walk 4.5 miles almost every day at lunch. This should have been a breeze, does it matter that I had on old running sneakers that were making me have the worst shin splints in my life (worse than walking from Back Bay, Jules) - I could have cried, seriously who would have known as it was only a "nor'easter" we were running in.... All in all it was fun????? yeah, I guess fun.
Stay warm people - it's snowing in October!!!!

Rest In Peace John

John fought a brave two-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Throughout his illness he was able to hold on to his sense of humor and threatened loved ones not to cry at his funeral, lest his spirit would return and kick them in the behind. He wants everyone to know that he was truly blessed.
John leaves behind his wife Donna M. (Galvin) Barber, and his children, Jillian, Andrea, Kelly, and Eric, and his grandson Nicolae. He will be missed by his many friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Food and Allergy Walk - THANK YOU!

We did it! Samantha and I jogged, ran, and strolled 3 miles for the Food and Allergy Network on a beautiful (although cloudy) Sunday morning at Hopkinton State Park. Samantha had her sneakers on and was ready to go at 7:30 this morning....that's my girl! I was so proud of her. She chatted with everyone along the way, asking me to read the signs they had posted about allergies and asking other kids if they had allergies - she sounded so grown-up. As we crossed the final wooden, rickety bridge that led to the finish line, a volunteer asked us if we understood it was a walk - apparently Sam and I were one of the first to finish....must have been Samantha and her stamina that kept me going at a fast pace. She was so cute, at one point she said "I know you said it wasn't a race and we are out here to support food allergies, but I think we are ahead of all those people back there...."We had a great time after the walk, face painting, bouncy house, yummy allergy-free cookies, which were actually really good..... It was nice to show Samantha that one way to give back to the community is by volunteering your time.
A big hug and THANK YOU to everyone for your donations!!!
